Zombies have again made Microsoft to think out of bounds and make their systems free from such remote controlled malicious software.

More than 43,000 new versions of such software were found in the first half of 2006.

According to Microsoft ‘”Attackers, with financial gain in mind, are clearly concentrating a significant amount of development focus on this category of malware’.

Microsoft has examined around 4 million Windows PCs infected with malicious software and have found out that out of them 2 million were running malicious remote control software.

A computer compromised by a Trojan horse, usually referred to as a Zombie PC, can be used by hackers in a network of bots to relay spam and launch cyberattacks. They steal the victim’s data, install spyware on the PC, and then can earn a kickback from the spyware maker.

Microsoft had launched a Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool in January last year, and updated versions of the software ships every month.
