Microsoft and Yahoo are joining to enhance their networks. Both companies announced that Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger are connected together to enhance their services.

Approximately 350 million users will use this new joint instant messaging service. Once a user is connected with Windows Live Messenger contact, automatically they would be connected with Yahoo Messenger service also.

According to 77% IM users want to send quick messages, while 32% respondents like to use emoticons to express themselves while chatting.

Yahoo conducted a study to determine that a third of IM users in the UK wanted to communicate using other IM networks. The research also showed that 77% of people believe that the ease of sending quick messages contributes to the growth in the use of IM, and 32% of respondents like using emoticons to express themselves while chatting.
