1. Has Vista missed the bus? As it is , PC sales are slowing down. Mobile is the platform to be on.

In the words of Jupiter Analyst Joe Wilcox,

...It looks like the launch window for Windows Vista should have been [in] 2004 or 2005, and Microsoft missed it.

2. Do we really need a new bloated PC based OS? Those using 2000 or any decent version of Windows can use any number of features online that Vista promises. What is all that noise about better file management? Vista is due at end of 2006. If not by then, but sooner than we all think the web be the next OS. Think Google, maybe.

3. The Gartner Group is confused itself. First it said that companies should hold back till 2008. Why?

...Deployments don’t just happen overnight. It will take many organizations about 18 months from the time Windows Vista ships to test applications, get independent software vendors to support applications, build images and run pilots. Organizations that ignore Vista until 2008 will not be ready to deploy it until 2010.

Then it says it has been misunderstood. It is now advising companies that comapnies running Windows 2000 should consider upgrading as soon as possible.

4. Take care of all that metadata that you will add to your documents in Vista.
Metadata is all that data which we add to a document to make it better searchable. Think Tags on sites like del.icio.us or Flickr. But those tags used by business executives in Windows Vista may expose all sorts of confidential information viewable to all outside the company. Companies will have to train employees in using metadata and put filters in place.

Essentially, newer software means more work.
