Virtual Iron has released a new version of its Server Virtualization Software with support for Microsoft Windows OS.

The new release, version 3.1 shoots all its targets as the company is offering the application for free and also the application allows the users to run both Windows and Linux.

The company gives a free license for all the users who have to run the software on a single four-socket server independent of the number of cores that the server has. However if you have to run the application on a group of systems then you will have to pay an additional fee of $499 per socket.

This price is around 20% cheaper than VMware’s ESX Server offering similar capabilities. However the rivals of Virtual Iron are also offering similar plans as VMware also offers a free license for its low-end server product and similarly, XenExpress lets customers manage a single virtual machine for free.

All the products by the above mentioned companies let the customers several copies of the same OS or multiple OSes on the same server.
