Windows Vista has just been released and here I have a list of the 10 greatest OS upgrades that took in the past.
I know that most of you will not like the Operating Systems mentioned in the list now, but when they were released they were a major hit.
These listed Operating Systems are like the backbone of today’s OS.
1) Apple DOS 3.1:
This OS was released in 1978 long before I was even born. This was the first commercially available disk operating system for the greatest PC of all times.
2) Apparat NewDOS/80 2.0:

This Operating System was released in 1981. All the users of the TRS-80 Computers were fully in favor of NewDOS, that was a third Party rival sold by a company called Apparat.
3) Microsoft MS-DOS 2.0:
Released in 1983 this OS was the biggest upgrade ever in the Operating System market. It included the basic future of all the computers. It featured Hard disks, Sub directories and backslashes to indicate file structures.
4) Apple Macintosh System 7:

This was the first Operating System that made Microsoft think about the future of Operating Systems. The main upgrades in the OS were a Colored interface, built-in multitasking, better stability and Aliases. This was the best OS upgrade until Mac OS X hit the market.
5)Microsoft Windows For Workgroups 3.11:
Released in 1992, this was the most highly-evolved version of Windows 3.x. This was the first OS that made networking a fundamental part of the Windows Platform. Many of the features of this OS also were a part of Windows 95.
6) Linux 0.99:
This was released in 1993 and was developed by Linus Torvalds who began work in 1991. He wanted to have a UNIX-like Operating System and was pretty successful in it.
7) Microsoft Windows 95:

This was released by Microsoft in 1995. There was nothing great about the OS but the reason why it is in the list is that it fixed many flaws in its predecessor. It was the first full-blown stand-alone product rather than a DOS add-on.
8) Microsoft Windows 2000:

The Operating System that was released in 2000 was exceptional. It was stable, secure and fully usable. Many businesses still prefer this above Windows XP.
9) Mac OS X 10.0:

Released in 2001 this OS offered backward compatibility with OS 9. The OS was launched the same year as Apple iPod was and it was also as significant as the iPod for the company.
10) LindowsOS 1.0
LindowsOS was released in 2001 and was beloved in the Linux industry. The OS was renamed Linspire after a tussle with Microsoft. This was the first Linux distribution for normal people and not for Geeks.
