This incredible piece of article in Tech Tuesday by Michael Desmond discusses the best features of Windows Vista and the reasons why you should go for it. Though he takes up the weak points as well, the overall assessment is that Windows Vista is a big improvement on all fronts from its predecessors.
He lists the following ten reasons:
1. Security: Microsoft might have patched a lot of loopholes in the XP with Service Pack 2, but with Vista, they have taken it to an altogether different level.
2. Internet Explorer 7: I had the opportunity to try out IE 7. Simply superb! It has actually addressed to the areas where Firefox scored over IE 6. Sites can be opened in new tabs, then there is this ’tile-view’ thing which is a first in browsers. Besides, with the colour code thing in address bar would let you know whether you are visiting a phishing site.
3. Breathtaking Graphics: The Aero Glass interface features visually engaging 3D rendering, animation, and transparencies. Translucent icons, program windows, and other elements not only look cool, they add depth and context to the interface.
4. Desktop Search: Well, Google has it, so does Yahoo! But according to Michael, Vista tightly integrates the search with it with better and faster indexing etc.
5. Better updates: It doesn’t use IE to access its updates. It has incorporated a new application for it.
6. More Media: Vista will have all the freebies as its predecessors had plus many more like the new DVD maker app
7. Parental Control: Access has been redefined in a variety of ways. You can actually customize your kids access freedom to the PC. It’s not just an ‘User-Admin’ thing anymore.
8. Better Backup: Vista boasts a much-improved backup program. It has a much better System Restore.
9. Better P2P Collaboration: Windows Collaboration module uses peer-to-peer technology to let Vista users work together in a shared workspace.
10. Ultra-quick Setup: A re-engineered install routine will cut down the installation time from about an hour to just about 15 mins.
