When you connect your system to the Internet via cable, dial-up, or DSL, anyone can invade your PC and ransack, and embezzle content on your PC. Firewalls have been built to avoid the same but pedophiles seem to be having very sharp brains. As the trend of internet chat room use by kids is mounting, the pedophiles are at an advantageous position. Simple surfing and instant messaging friends are common activities for kids.
Now, a Sydney based company has developed a software tools that helps the parents to keep a tab on their children’s doings in real time. If we believe the words from the developers, the tool dubbed ‘ChatAlert‘ has the potential to detect even the slightest online marauder and it instantly alerts the parents via an SMS or e-mail.
All you need to do is to install the ChatAlert on the PC and it will then distinctly keep an eye on the chat room and messenger activities, and the moment it detects any intrusion, it alerts the parents via SMS or e-mail. Fraser Larcombe, a developer of ChatAlert cited:
The software looked for common phrases, slang and abbreviations used by predators to lure children into real-world meetings or online relationships. The dictionary of phrases and slang is constantly being updated.
Once an infringement has been detected and an alert is sent to the parents, they can send three letters; A, B or C. ‘A‘ alerts the kid ‘be careful what you’re doing’, ‘B‘ closes the conversation, and ‘C‘ closes the PC fully.
Parents can even customize the ChatAlert software by selecting the desired alert level and making it less or more sensitive. The downloadable version of ChatAlert is priced at $49.95 along with a few ongoing costs. But, it is just a precautionary assess as the software can’t track the pedophiles.
