A new variant of a malicious bot program is spreading via a flaw in the Symantec’s Anti-virus software and it is being helped by some security holes in Microsoft.

The program is presently attacking the .edu domain and till now no significant damage has been caused by the program.

The spybot is using a six-month-old vulnerability in Symantec’s Anti virus software. Symantec has already released a patch for the security hole and those who have installed it are not affected by the attack.

The malicious program takes advantage of five flaws in Microsoft Windows and those have also been patched by Microsoft.

Once the malicious program is installed it opens a backdoor in the system and connects to an Internet Relay Chat and lets the remote attacker take full control over the PC. A system then is converted to a Zombie PC and the attackers make it a part of a network to launch cyberattacks.
