It had to come from Oracle, isn’t it? And, so it came. The big news today is that Oracle today announced a new world record TPC-H Three Terabyte (TB) benchmark for Oracle Database 10g Release 2.

Oracle now holds the records in the four largest scale benchmarks:

1. TPC-H 300 Gigabyte

2. TPC-H One TB

3. TPC-H Three TB

4. TPC-H 10 TB.

Running on a single Sun Fire E25K server with 72 UltraSPARC IV+ 1.5 GHz processors and the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS), Oracle Database 10g Release 2 with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) achieved a world record-breaking performance of 105,430.9 QphH@3000GB. This came with a price-performance ratio of $54.87/QphH@3000GB.

Oracle’s ASM provides simplified database storage management and provisioning along with the ability to add and remove storage capacity without interrupting the database online operation.

On this Richard Sarwal, Oracle’ s VP Server Performance said;

Oracle Database 10g Release 2 repeatedly demonstrates its superior fit in demanding data warehouse environments. The addition of this benchmark helps to prove that no matter how much our customers’ data warehouses grow, the Oracle Database will continue to deliver the best, most consistent database performance.

This is something really to cheer and be proud of for Oracle. At the rate which Oracle is improving its own benchmarks, it seems that its competitors have now got some job at their hands.

There is some catching up to do folks!
