The leading provider of open source collaboration software, Open-Xchange Inc. has partnered with partnership with 1&1 Internet, the world’s largest web hosting company to provide Open-Xchange’s Smart Collaboration technology based email and collaboration services.
Under this partnership, the 1&1 will offer range of its branded email and collaboration services to its customers based on the Open-Xchange platform. Firstly, this service would be available in Germany, later on the service will reach US, UK and France. The 1&1 will offer the full set of Open-Xchange services, including personal information management (PIM) functionality, email, calendaring, contacts and task management together with advanced groupware features like Documail, Smart Linking and Smart Document Sharing.
The company will use the open source technologies like Open-Xchange and the MySQL database, which provides high quality performance, reliability and also offers 1&1 greater scalability. Open-Xchange’s open standards and open Application Programming Interface (API) will completely integrated with 1&1’s back-end email systems and business processes like user provisioning, systems management and billing processes.
This movement would be the part of Open-Xchange’s Software as a Service (SaaS) strategy to provide Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and web-hosting companies email and collaboration functionalities for serving the small-to-medium (SME) market.
According to Andreas Gauger, CEO of 1&1 Internet, the Open-Xchange is the perfect platform, which will allow customers to take benefit from the latest technologies and reduce their overall IT cost.
