It would be great for the developers to have a widget that works with every platform rather than on the only one where it was firstly developed. The W3C has these days a working draft of a 1.0 Widget specification, which if gets approved, would make things uncomplicated for developers by requiring some standardization.
At the Future of Web Apps conference in London, Netvibes founder Tariq Krim officially announced their forthcoming ‘Coriander’ release that will allow the use of widgets on any platform.
The new product dubbed Universal Widget API can be availed through eco.netvibes.com/uwa. Developers will be at ease since every widget that has been created for Netvibes will work on the Vista , Google , Mac and Opera platforms followed by sport for Yahoo Widgets. The widget would be added to any compatible platform with a single javascript embed code.
Krim also revealed that Netvibes will be sporting OpenID this year. Screenshots of Netvibes widgets running on a Mac as well as Google after the jump.
