NEC Corporation has unveiled the Express5800/ft series fault-oriented sever, which is featured with two quad-core Intel Xeon processors. NEC has signed an agreement with Massachusetts-based Stratus Technologies Inc. to design the first and latest ft series model, named 320Fc-MR. Firstly, the NEC Express5800/320Fc-MR will go on sale in Japan and North America on July 9, 2007.

The company has designed the Express5800/ft series fault-oriented sever to enhance its GeminiEngine chipset, which is designed to ensure lockstep processing in redundant components. The 320Fc-MR is featured with two quad-core Intel Xeon processor X5355 and a 1333MHz front side bus, which offers five times more processing power than the previous single core processor model. NEC’s new Express5800/ft series fault-oriented sever supports following server:

1) Microsoft Windows Server 2003
2) Enterprise Edition
3) Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4

The server allows a wide range of open source applications to run on Red Hat Linux in the high-availability fault-tolerant server. The server addresses planned and unplanned downtime through its dual modular architecture, which allows the active and physically replicated modules to process the same instructions simultaneously. The replicated modules of NEC’s server include CPU, memory, I/O components, hard disk drives, power supply and cooling fans. The replicated module operates normally, if there is a failure of hardware.
