Yesterday, Microsoft released an Internet Explorer updated that is related to a high profile patent row with a startup backed by the University of California.



The update changes how the popular browser handles ActiveX controls. The changes can impact how certain sites display. Microsoft recommends Web developers tug their pages or users will have to activate the controls manually to get to some content, such as Macromedia Flash-based animations or media content.



The Microsoft representative announcing this said;

We expect these changes will have little to no impact on customer experience and partner applications. Microsoft expects the vast majority of existing IE customers will download the update as part of ongoing security updates in the next four to six months.




Well, Microsoft can also cite security reasons for its Windows user not having the Active X Controls activated by default. However, whatever the case is, in my opinion, the spat is actually an issue made out of a complete non-issue.
