The Redmond giant has quietly released the second service pack of Windows Server 2003.
Two years earlier the company had released WS2K3 SP1 in which Windows Firewall and Group Policy Management Console were added.
The integrated applications were found to be useful but they also included reductions in overall system efficiency.
The company then had to make some major changes and the released the ‘Release 2′ of WS2K3 in December 2005. This was not a service pack but was a reassembly of the OS. Now the second service pack comes according to the R2 of the OS hence it will be abbreviated as WS2K3 R2 SP2.
This new release is also a host of some great improvements which include the much improved Management Console 3.0.
System administrators are prepared for the worst as they suffered a lot when the company released SP1 two years ago. If similar things happen in SP2 then the company should abandon the OS and release Windows Server 2007 much earlier than expected.
