Linux is doing so many things like open sourcing, security, reliability but it is far from perfect. May be Linux fans hate Microsoft.
I read this article, in which they have mentioned the top five things that Linux can learn from Microsoft.
1. MSDN: The open source with Linux, all codes are open, so any developer start working on it. While Microsoft is providing Microsoft Developer Network for their developers. It provides help in writing applications using Microsoft products and programming tools to developers. Linux has not this type of network to help their developers.
2. Common Interface: Microsoft is launching it Windows in series order as if you know Office 97, then easily you can learn Office 2003. Nevertheless, Linux is making big jump from one application to another like KDE to GNOME to Enlightenment. Due to this, customers would not feel comfort in learning applications.
3. Common Format: Microsoft’s office formats are proprietary, due to market pressure they have become universal formats. They keep on changing their formats without loosing any data. The Open Document Format is offering a good deal. Linux is not doing such things on their formats.
4. Marketing: Microsoft is on top position because they are spending millions on marketing and advertising.
5. OEM Support: Microsoft is manufacturing its own original equipments. If you want Windows desktop, you just have to buy PC. While if you want Linux desktop, you have install Xandros on a PC. Therefore, it is quite tough for users to use Linux.
These are five points, if Linux can learn from Microsoft, may be it is in top position.
