All of you computer wizards out there, here is some interesting news! According to sources, Mozilla has added Places to the alpha set, which is going to be released by the next week. This new addition has helped Mozilla in attaining a new landmark in its stride towards Firefox 3.0.

With Places, Mozilla has given an entire new look to some interesting features of browser, such as history and bookmarks. Earlier, Places was slotted to be released in Firefox 2.0, but was postponed for a year. Now, it is making debut in the Firefox 3.0 version.

According to the efficient team of Places, “We enabled the Places implementation of bookmarks on the trunk,” they further added “Although there is still much to be done, this is an important milestone for us.” On June 1, Firefox 3.0 alpha will be launched.

Places mainly utilizes open-source SQLite database engine for storing and retrieving all the history entries and bookmarks. It is interesting to know that along with previous Firefox editions’ bookmarks, Places is not compatible. According to the developers of Mozilla, all the Alpha users have to change their previous entries.

Mozilla developers also added, “If you make any changes to bookmarks.html you will need to manually export them and re-import them into the bookmark-on-places [Firefox 3.0 alpha] nightly.”
