The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is recommending Windows users to stop a potential wormhole in the Microsoft Operating system.
The agency is also recommending people to apply Microsoft’s MS06-040 patch as soon as possible. Company has released the ‘critical’ fix as part of its monthly cycle.
The MS06-040 allows an anonymous attacker to command remotely on Windows PC without any user interaction. This flaw is similar to Windows bug named, MSBlast worm spread in 2003. Both flaws are related with Windows component known as ‘remote procedure call’ which provides support for networking features.
According to Microsoft, the vulnerability ‘critical’ is for all versions of Windows. However, users can protect their Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 with Pack 1 by Windows Firewall without sharing files and printing.
