google-apps-premier-edition_48Google is all set to take on Microsoft with its new online suite of business software dubbed “Google Apps Premier Edition.” The major upgrade of the Google Apps is being seen by the industry analysts as a tough competitor to Microsoft Office. Well, Google Apps are the simple and powerful collaboration and communication tools for the organizations.

In the last year, Microsoft came up with Microsoft Office Live, which was an assemblage of tools meant for small organizations to get organized with an ease. Both the Office Live and the Google Apps offer mobile versions. The key differences between the two suites are as follows:

•There is need to buy software, install it on the system, and then maintain it in the Microsoft model but in the Google model, users will access the software (on servers) via internet. It can be taken as a major trait of Web 2.0.

•Microsoft Live limits the email storage per user to 2GB with 1 GB of workspace storage while Google Apps offers 10GB email storage per user along with unlimited document storage.

•Office Live offers 50 email accounts (name@company.com) while Google Apps offers unlimited accounts.

•Office Live comes for $19.95 per month ($239.40 per year, taking 5 active workspace users) while Google Apps Premier costs $50 per user, per year ($250 per year, taking 5 active users).

For now, the market is dominated by Microsoft but the Google Apps Premier Edition is anticipated by most of the analysts to be solid alternative to Microsoft Office Live.
