Dell has shook hands with Novell and Microsoft who had come together last year to make it easy for Windows and Linux to work together. Microsoft had stated that it would be offering coporates a chance to license its Windows OS as a part of the package including maintenance and support for Novell. Dell would be buying Suse Linux Enterprise Server certificates from Microsoft and setting up a services and marketing program for attracting users of open source platforms to switch to the latest Suse Linux offering.
Rick Becker, V.P., Dell stated:
Dell is the first major systems provider to align with Microsoft and Novell in this collaboration, and we intend to lead in this space.
In order to encourage companies to opt for open source platform of Novell Microsoft has decided not to file patent rights lawsuits over any technology which blends with Suse Linux. The association of Dell with Microsoft and Novell highlights that the market is growing.
