Apple’s Security Update 2006-07 includes fixes for 31 flaws in Apple’s own code and other third party software that come along with Apple Mac OS X. These third party utilities include Perl, PHP and OpenSSL.

This update does not address all security flaws in the OS but many flaws that were supposed to be critical have been addressed.

Apple has been a target of many anonymous security workers who started the Month of Kernel Bugs. One such exposed bug was the ‘Zero-Day’ Exploit, which was rated ‘Highly Critical’ by security company Secunia.

Apple has not fixed any bug that was disclosed during the Month of Kernel Bugs except for the Airport Bug. This bug allowed a potential hacker to take full control of a system if the system was in a public place like an Airport by sending a malicious network packet.

The update fixes four flaws in the Mac OS X security framework the worst of which can crash the OS altogether.

The security update is available from available on Apple’s Download Center and Apple has recommended all users to download it.
